AI SEO – Visibility in the era of AI-generated searches

Search engines are evolving rapidly. Instead of displaying only a list of links, they now provide complete, AI-written answers — clear summaries synthesized from multiple online sources and displayed directly on the page, in areas such as AI Overviews (Google) or Copilot Answers (Bing).

AI SEO means improving your website content so that it can be understood, selected, and cited by these AI systems. In short, it means becoming one of the trusted, validated sources that language models use to generate answers. We are no longer talking only about SERP positions, but about presence in automatically generated content, where the user’s first interaction with information takes place.

At Digital Craft, we provide specialized AI SEO services — designed for the way AI searches for, understands, synthesizes, and displays content. We adapt not only to algorithms, but also to the way people search today: conversationally, quickly, and guided by direct questions.

The new SEO goal -> be a source, not just a link

Traditional SEO focuses on SERP positioning.
AI SEO focuses on appearing directly in the answer.

Examples:

SERP ® you rank #1 for “how to plant lavender”

AI ® your snippet is cited in the automated answer, without the user having to click anything else

The difference? Visual impact and instant trust.

Why choose Digital Craft for AI SEO?

Advanced expertise in optimization for LLMs (Large Language Models)

Strategies focused on citability, semantic relevance, and extractable structure

Adaptation to new search paradigms (Google SGE, Bing Copilot, Perplexity, ChatGPT with browsing, etc.)

Full integration with your content strategy, without excluding traditional SEO

Expertise in understanding and structuring content for AI

LLM models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) do not search like a traditional search engine. They search to answer, not to redirect.

How do AIs choose what to cite?

LLM models scan the web for content that simultaneously checks these boxes:

clarity (direct, concise answers without ambiguity),

authority (the website has clear E-E-A-T signals),

structure (well-implemented markup and semantic signals),

logical consistency within the topic (it is not an “isolated” paragraph, but part of a consistent explanation).

Once identified, the snippet is used in two ways:

as a direct quote with the source and link mentioned (e.g. Perplexity, Bing),

as a paraphrased summary where only the source is mentioned textually or visually (e.g. SGE, ChatGPT).

Elements that increase the likelihood of AI selection (from an LLM perspective)

Your AI has a preferred response pattern. Models look for:

answers in the format short definition + details + example

information that can be understood in < 5 seconds

a neutral, consistent, professional tone – without empty superlatives, but also without robotic language

question-style headings (“How does X work?”, “What is Y?”, “Why Z?”)

In this regard, at Digital Craft we work to make your texts become answers in themselves — not just links to answers.

What do we focus on?

1

Smart content structuring

Clear segmentation through descriptive subheadings (H2, H3), organized hierarchically

Short paragraphs with distinct ideas – easy to extract and understand outside the broader context

Applying the inverted pyramid principle – the essentials come first, followed by the details

2

Answers designed to be citable

Clearly defining the essential questions users would ask

Direct answers followed by explanations and examples – a format suited to AI models

Inserting authentic mini-FAQs inspired by real searches or social media conversations

3

Dual-validated tone: human + AI

Conversational but informed style – easy for people to read and digestible for LLMs

Avoiding ambiguous wording, unexplained jargon, and exaggerated marketing

Consistency in writing style, which helps AI models understand brand consistency

For example: if someone searches for “how to care for a bonsai in winter” and AI provides a summary, it may include a paragraph from your website exactly as it is written — if it is clear, useful, and contextualized.

The role of images in AI SEO

This is an often-overlooked but extremely important aspect:

AI-friendly images can appear in:

visual SGE responses (where source collages are displayed)

Perplexity responses with cited visuals

articles summarized by Claude or Gemini with a graphic preview

What do we do?

name images descriptively (design-gradina-verticala.jpg instead of IMG_3243.jpg)

add semantic ALT text, not just functional ALT text

provide textual context before or after the image

associate images with popular search topics in the industry

Semantic enhancement and technical markup

AI models do not rely only on keywords, but on the deep meaning of the text. To be selected, content must:

have a strong semantic signature

be properly contextualized within the topic

have appropriate technical markup (for identification, extraction, and association)

In this regard, we will implement:

Advanced Schema Markup (FAQ, Article, HowTo, Review, Product, etc.)

Content aligned with E-E-A-T principles (Expertise, Experience, Authority, Trustworthiness)

Headings and metadata built for AI “scannability”

Correlation of topics / entities / frequently asked questions for semantic consistency

Strategies adapted to new AI search engines

AI SEO does not replace traditional SEO, but transforms it. Websites are no longer simply “ranked”, but chosen as sources in AI conversations. This means:

Optimization for Google SGE (Search Generative Experience)

Adaptation for Bing Copilot and Microsoft Answers

Content prepared for ChatGPT with active browsing, Claude, or Perplexity AI

Multichannel enhancement, with a focus on conversational interactions

Concrete example: when a user asks ChatGPT “what are the best Romanian outdoor furniture brands?”, the answer may include “brand X – leader in garden furniture production in Bucharest-Ilfov”, if this wording exists on the brand’s website, is well positioned semantically, and is supported by online authority.

Why is it important now?

In 2024, Google had already integrated “AI Overviews” into more than 39% of searches — and the number is growing. More and more users receive an AI-generated answer directly, without opening traditional links.

If that answer includes your content, you get:

exposure without being #1 in the SERP

authority associated with your brand and implicit validation

more opportunities for long-term organic traffic

Frequently asked questions

GEO is the optimization of a website to be cited as a source in answers generated by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Unlike SEO, where you compete for a click from the results list, in GEO you compete to be the source the model uses and mentions when answering a question from your customer.

We manually test a set of questions your customers would ask on each platform and record whether and how you are cited, then monitor this periodically. In addition, traffic from AI assistants appears in Google Analytics 4 as referral sources (chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com), and we separate it into a dedicated report. There is not yet an official tool equivalent to Search Console for AI.

llms.txt is a text file at the root of the website (site.ro/llms.txt) that briefly describes the business, services, and important pages in a format that is easy for language models to read. It is an emerging standard, voluntarily adopted by AI crawlers, not a guarantee of citation. We implement it because it has a low cost and clarifies what you want AI to understand about you, together with permissions for AI crawlers in robots.txt.

No — it builds on it. Generative models generally cite sources that are already well indexed, have authority, and have a clear structure. A website with technical problems, thin content, or no schema markup does not become an AI source through any GEO tactic. That is why we first check the SEO fundamentals, then adapt the content for extraction and citation.

Direct answers in the first sentences under each subheading, subheadings phrased as real customer questions, extractable definitions and lists, data with a source and date, schema markup (FAQPage, Article, Organization, Product), and author and expertise signals (E-E-A-T). Models prefer content that can be extracted and verified, not marketing copy.

Using three indicators: citation frequency in a fixed set of questions tested monthly on each platform, referral traffic from AI assistants in Google Analytics 4, and conversions from that traffic. We also report the evolution of AI Overviews in Google for the tracked keywords. We do not invent figures: where data does not exist, we clearly state what can and cannot be measured.
